Situated on Bay Street in Port Melbourne, [MARS] Melbourne Art Rooms (otherwise known as MARS Gallery) opened in February 2004 and has quickly earned a reputation as one of Melbourne's most exciting and diverse commercial art spaces.

Originally an old dairy, the MARS building was neglected and run down during its use as a warehouse and a mechanical workshop. Remarkably reincarnated blending aspects of the old and the new, MARS is a unique space that offers a backdrop of simplicity and generous proportions to showcase outstanding contemporary Australian and International art from emerging and established artists. MARS has now proudly exhibited over 60 shows with some of the highlights to date including Robert Jacks, Jan Senbergs, Anne Judell, Nick Mourtzakis, Louiseann Zahra-King, Andrew Logan (NY), Rose Holzer and Stephane Guiran (FRANCE), Julie Irving, Samuel Tupou and William Eicholtz.

The everyday activity of the gallery is to showcase monthly over two floors a cross-section of local and interstate contemporary artists working in a broad spectrum of diverse media.

MARS additionally stages projects and one of events by emerging and mid career artists from all disciplines, MARS curates twice a year group shows and stages events at unusual and corporate venues who may not normally be exposed to contemporary art, with a view to fostering a greater awareness through contemporary art of the environment and the issues that we face culturally today
